FAQ

Where are you located?

The Green Leaf Counseling office is located at the following address:

10540 Marty Street
Suite 160
Overland Park, KS 66212

Just head north on Metcalf from I-435 to 105th and turn left at the light. When you get to Marty Street, turn left again. Our building is on your right next to Wilson Lighting. Feel free to park anywhere near the building. We are located on the first floor in the back hallway. When you get here, feel free to have a seat in the lobby and take a deep breath. You made it!

And if you live in the state of Kansas, we offer online therapy wherever you are!

With whom do you work?

I work with adults, individuals, and couples who are looking to improve their lives and relationships.

The individuals I have worked with have been dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, negative religious experiences, or a significant life transition.

The couples I work with are often in high conflict and are trying to find a way to make their marriage a place where communication and care can happen.

Do you work with LGBTQIA+ persons?

Inclusivity is one of my core values. Helping people to feel cared for no matter how they might identify is what I want you to experience when you work with me. You will never have to wonder if that will hinder our work together.

My clientele includes LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples who are working hard on improving their lives and relationships. It’s what you deserve, too.

Do you work with adolescents?
I love kids and teens and all the fun they bring to life, but I do not work with that age group in my practice. However, I know some great people who do, and I’d love to connect you with them.
How do I schedule an appointment with you?

The first step is to call or contact me by email: bedora.counseling@gmail.com.

We’ll then schedule a chat for about 15 minutes. Then, if things seem like a good fit, I will share with you what times I have available. Once you choose your time, that will be your reserved time for session every week.

Can I text you?
You can generally text me brief questions about your appointment time (or to notify me when you’ve arrived or if you’re running late). Otherwise, a phone call will be the best way for us to communicate with each other.
Do you take my insurance?

I do not take insurance.

However, I can provide you with a “Superbill” that you can submit to your insurance provider to seek reimbursement for services.

The best thing to do is call your insurance company and ask them about “out-of-network outpatient behavioral health” to see what they offer.

What are your hours?

I schedule sessions during the day and evening, depending on what is available and what works for your schedule. We will find a time that works for both of us.

What I do know is that the change you’re looking for is most likely going to happen if we meet weekly.

What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. I charge the full session fee for anything less than that. If you are more than 15-minutes late to a session, that is also considered a late cancellation.
How many sessions are there?
Everyone is so unique! There is no specific timetable for my clients. Some find that they are helped by a few months, whereas others take a few years.
What do I need to do before our first session?

Before we meet for the first time, you will receive an email with some paperwork. I know… “paperwork “isn’t the most exciting word, but it allows us to get things started more quickly when you first arrive. The paperwork will include a place to share more about yourself, some consent forms, and a place to put in your payment information.

The best part is that you won’t have to struggle with printing forms or remembering to bring in the paperwork because everything is done electronically. It’s all straightforward and shouldn’t take you more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

Can you really help?

I have been so fortunate over the years to interact with and help so many people. I truly love the work I do because of that.

It can be super vulnerable and nerve-wracking for people that go to counseling. Maybe they had a bad experience before, or they have never been open about it. I know the feeling. I was once there myself. That’s why I began meeting with a therapist myself, and I’ve never regretted it! There is a good chance that you are going to feel the same, too.

At some point, one of us might wonder whether our time together is helpful. That’s okay! We will discuss it and see if we need to change what we are doing or explore other options to meet your needs.

Is it okay to cuss in session?

I want you to feel free to be yourself. If you feel that the right curse word will emphasize how things are, then use it!

This isn’t the place to hold back. You might even hear me using a therapeutic curse word or two.

What is your favorite BBQ place in KC?
The cruelest of all questions for a BBQ lover! I love BBQ. My favorite go-to is burnt ends, so I love heading to Joe’s or Jones’ BBQ. I’ll hit up Jack Stack if I’m feelin’ fancy, I’ll hit up Jack Stack for some ribs. I also love Bates City BBQ in Shawnee for some always solid ribs and their pulled pork. Who’s hungry?!
Do I have to lie on a couch?
I wouldn’t stop you! But if you fall asleep, the session will not be as exciting.
Cats or dogs?
I’m super allergic to cats, and I think they all know it. They seem to sense it and find their way to me in a crowd of people. So dogs win because they don’t make my eyes well shut.
